Kate Rose and the Garden at RecordBar during Middle of the Map Fest 2017, 5/6/17
Singer-songwriter Kate Rose recently played a set at RecordBar as a part of Middle of the Map Fest 2017. Backed by her band, the Garden, Rose showcased her heartfelt songs and passionate vocals. Check out this live version of “Who the Hell Knows?”
I recently did a live interview with Kevin Briody, Allison Gliesman and Tanner Pinkerton of Kansas City-based band Mess. We chatted it up after their set at the Do816 day party at Josey Records during Middle of the Map Fest 2017. They always put on a captivating live show and are my favorite local band.
Our morning show host, Shawn Quinn, asked what kind of music she liked. “I like a lot of different music,” she said. “I like music that I hear around. I really like the Wonder Woman theme song. It gets me pumped up.” What an unexpected response.
“What’s your name?”
“Wonder Woman.”
“No, really.”
We eventually got her real name out of her.
She explained how she became interested in taekwondobecause Wonder Woman did martial arts. She is training to become proficient with every martial arts weapon, because Wonder Woman is also proficient with every weapon. While talking, she nonchalantly twirled a kendo stick. It was clear she meant business. No word yet on if she’s saving up for a down payment on an invisible plane.
It’s inspiring to meet people that are so passionate. To go from being a fan of a superhero to actually practicing martial arts takes things from fantasy to reality really quickly. Good for you, Wonder Woman! Beast it out there!
Writer Stephanie Young and illustrator Allyson Lassiter, of the comic Star Beasts, at Planet Comicon 2017, 4/30/17
I recently hit up Planet Comicon 2017 with artist Matthew Arnold. You know I’m all about being the beast. It was only fitting to have a live chat with Star Beasts writer Stephanie Young and illustrator Allyson Lassiter.
Kitten recently rocked a set at the Midland. They always bring the energy live. The band’s set was a part of Afentra’s Prom, put on by 96.5 The Buzz. Check out this live version of “Fall on Me.”
