McClain and Jerry the King Lawler at Planet Comicon, 4/28/17
It was wonderful to meet legendary wrestler, commentator and artist Jerry the King Lawler at Planet Comicon. I covered Planet Comicon for X1051. I told Lawler that his jokes aren’t corny and are actually funny. He said, “Tell my fiancee what you just told me.” I said that I thought about going into pro wrestling, but was out of shape. I told him that “I am so out of shape, calfs follow me around and try to suckle my arm under hang for sustenance.” Lawler reassured me that it is OK to be out of shape because, “round is a shape.” All hail the King!
It was such an honor to meet wrestling legend Ric Flair at Planet Comicon. I covered Planet Comicon for X1051. I was like, “Ric, I respect you so much because you really know how to bring the energy to the people.” I did a low key “Wooo!” Ric said, “Yeah! You have to bring it!” Then he unleashed a full-strength “WOOOOO!!!” in my face. Fantastic.
Flair’s amped up vibes are timeless and on a totally different level. It comes across as a natural extension of himself. In briefly meeting Ric, I learned that the Woooos are his life force. It’s a self-fulfilling energy cycle. Flair gets people fired up. He Woooos. They Woooo. It gets Ric lit up. The positive feelings create even more energy. It’s a strangely inspiring feeling. It’s important to be reminded to bring the intensity in life. Get hyped up, kick some ass and take some names everyday. Find the Woooooo within you!
Of Montreal recently brought their psychedelic indie rock vibes to a packed RecordBar. The Georgia-based band brought a trippy production with them, complete with backup dancers and a sword-wielding yeti. The crowd was grooving hard and dancing all night. It was one of the best live shows I’ve seen so far this year. Check out this live version of “We Will Commit Wolf Murder.”
Past interview subjectsTennis recently bought their smooth and soulful indie grooves to a packed Riot Room. I covered the show for X1051. Check out these live versions of “Never Work for Free” and “Needle and a Knife.”

Mary Lattimore recently played a lovely solo set at RecordBar, opening for Real Estate. I covered the show for X1051. The Philadelphia-based harpist won over the audience with her beautiful, dreamy songs. Check out this live clip of the new song “Wawa by the Ocean.”
Real Estate recently made their Kansas City debut with a sold out show at RecordBar. I covered the show for X1051. They are one of my favorite bands ever and they always put on a passionate live show. Excellent new songs, from this year’s In Mind, fit in perfectly with classic tunes throughout the band’s 75-minute set. Check out these live versions of new song “Serve the Song” and the legendary “Talking Backwards.”
